Facebook Image Sizes

By far the world’s leading social media platform, Facebook is used by billions of people every month. It’s important to make sure you’re reaching your audience with high-quality images that fit where they’re being posted.

There are many different images on the Facebook platform and the dimensions vary depending on what type of image you are trying to post.

  • Profile Picture: 180 x 180
  • Cover Photo: 820 x 462
  • Image Posts: 1200 x 630
  • Links: 1200 x 630
  • Stories: 1080 x 1920
  • Videos: 1280 x 720 (max length 240 minutes)
  • Group cover: 1640 x 922
  • Event Images: 1920 x 1080

Your Facebook profile picture should be a square image that is 180 x 180. On desktops, it will display at a slightly smaller 170 x 170. Since this is the image that represents you or your business across the entire platform and is often seen in a tiny 32 x 32 size, make sure it is clean, easy to view and that it looks great even at very small sizes.

The cover photo or video will only appear on your personal or business timeline. Anything larger than these dimensions will be cropped, and anything smaller will be stretched, so it’s important to choose something that looks nice in this size.

Instagram Image Sizes

Instagram is a visual-first network, so it is incredibly important to post the right size images on this platform. Failure to format your images properly can cause serious damage to your brand image, reach and engagement.

  • Profile Picture: 110 x 110
  • Image Posts: 1080 x 1080
  • Stories: 1080 x 1920

Except for Stories, it helps to stick with square images. They may be scaled to various sizes (for example, image posts often show as 161 x 161 thumbnails) but the square aspect ratio typically remains the same.

Stories, of course, are a larger vertical format.

Pinterest Image Sizes

Pinterest is a strong source of referral traffic. Almost 90% of Pinterest pages are external links and that’s exactly what this platform was built for. Optimize your images perfectly to maximize the benefits of your pins!

  • Profile Picture: 165 x 165
  • Pins: 2:3 or 1:3.5 ratio
  • Boards: 220×150 or 55×55

Pinterest restricts the width of pins but not the length. You can post square pins or tall vertical pins. Typically, vertical pins perform better because they stay on the screen longer as a user scrolls.

Twitter Image Sizes

If you choose to use Twitter, it’s important to know how to make images that fit this platform’s new layout.

  • Profile Photo: 400 x 400
  • Header Photo: 1,500 x 500
  • In-Stream Photos:
    • With Shared Link: 1,200 x 628
    • Single Image: 1,200 x 675
    • Three Images: 700 x 800 (left) and 1,200 x 686 (for the two on the right)
    • Four images: 1,200 x 600 each

LinkedIn Image Sizes

LinkedIn is the world’s largest professional social network. This platform is ideal for people who are looking to make B2B connections, find employees and connect with industry leaders.

  • Profile Image: 300 x 300
  • Personal Background Image: 1584 x 396
  • Company Cover Image: 1192 x 220
  • Shared Images: 1200 x 627

Tumblr Image Sizes

Tumblr is often dismissed as a blogging platform but it’s also a social network. This platform allows users to effortlessly share whatever they want, so it can be helpful to maintain a brand presence here as well.

  • Profile Picture: 128 x 128
  • Image Posts: 500 x 750
  • Link Images: 130 x 130
